The VIII edition of Expocidades will come to Sarria as a showcase for sustainable and cross-border tourism in the Eixo Atlántico
The Galician town of Sarria will host from the 2nd to the 4th of May the eighth edition of Expocidades, a tourism fair organised by the Eixo Atlántico, as a showcase of good practice, within the framework of the POST project of the Interreg Atlantic Area 2021-2027 programme. The event aims to promote cultural and territorial cooperation between Galicia and Northern Portugal, and to highlight the rich common heritage that unites both regions.
The opening ceremony will take place on Thursday 2nd of May at 1:30pm in Praza da Vila., and will feature a performance by the Sarria Municipal Music Band. Throughout the weekend, Expocidades will bring together thirty municipalities and entities of the Eixo Atlántico, which will present their tourism offer through cultural, gastronomic and heritage experiences.
This programme includes, as usual, tastings of regional products, exhibitions of handicrafts, music and traditional dances. Sarria, in this edition, enriches the program with guided tours, wine tastings, exhibitions, workshops and concerts, consolidating Expocidades as a benchmark for sustainable tourism and Atlantic cultural exchange. One of the highlights will be the exhibition dedicated to Matías López, the famous local chocolate industrialist, coinciding with the bicentenary of his birth.
As part of its participatory and thematic approach, the fair will dedicate each day to a territorial area: Galicia (Friday), Europe (Saturday) and Portugal (Sunday), underlining the transnational dimension of the POST project and the Eixo Atlántico itself.
Among the main activities are also guided tours of the French Way and local heritage, led by experts such as historian Silvia Mondelo, as well as a tasting of Galician and Portuguese wines on Saturday 3rd, in an exclusive event for 100 people with the participation of renowned oenologist.
Children will be able to enjoy workshops on chocolate, magic and making instruments from natural materials, while adults will have the opportunity to take part in a traditional Galician dance workshop. Music will be another of the main protagonists of Expocidades, with performances for all tastes: from a tribute to ABBA, to concerts by the local band Louband and the Sarria-based group Clarisaxos, who will close the fair with their final performance.
Expocidades is an example of the commitment of the Eixo Atlántico and the POST project to a sustainable, identity-based and collaborative tourism model, where culture and heritage act as bridges between territories. The fair offers a unique opportunity to rediscover and share the richness of the Atlantic through authentic experiences, building community across borders.
