Registrations open for the Braga Hackathon: a co-creation experience to transform tourism in northern Portugal
Within the framework of the European project POST – Polycentric Sustainable Tourism, funded by the Interreg Atlantic Area program, we have launched a pioneering initiative: The Braga Hackathon. It is a space for collaboration and collective creativity that seeks to generate new ideas and solutions for a more innovative, sustainable and decentralized tourism in the northern region of Portugal.
A call to action to rethink tourism
Today the tourism sector is undergoing a global transformation, which has changed how we travel, how we manage destinations and how we connect with the territories. Braga Hackathon is born with the vocation of offering answers, posing itself as an open innovation challenge that invites people with ideas, talent and commitment to design proposals that can have a real impact on the future of regional tourism.
Braga Hackathon will bring together participants of different profiles – entrepreneurs, students, designers, experts in tourism, technology and sustainability, as well as local actors – in an intensive experience of co-creation, where they will work in teams to address specific challenges of the sector.
This project seeks solutions that integrate the values that guide the POST project: innovation, sustainability and decentralization. In other words, it seeks to promote the application of new technologies, methodologies or business models to enrich the tourist experience and improve territorial management, as well as to encourage initiatives that respect the environment, strengthen local economies and promote a more responsible relationship between visitors and host communities, and promote proposals that help to better distribute tourist flows, enhance lesser-known destinations and reinforce the identity of local communities.
Braga, as a historic and vibrant city in northern Portugal, represents an ideal setting for exploring new forms of tourism. With a rich cultural heritage, a growing entrepreneurial community and a strong commitment to innovation, it becomes the perfect place to host this type of collaborative dynamics.
In addition, Braga Hackathon is part of the pilot actions of the POST project, which has the overall objective of developing more equitable and sustainable tourism models in peripheral regions of the European Atlantic area.

Anyone with an interest in contributing to the future of tourism can join. Previous experience in hackathons is not necessary: fresh ideas, diversity of approaches and willingness to collaborate are valued.
